Dyson Cool CF1 Finally Refreshes the Original Bladeless Fan

The Dyson Cool, which pioneered the bladeless fan design, originally came out in 2008. Dyson has released numerous products with the same bladeless designs since then, consisting not just of cooling fans, but space heaters, air purifiers, and humidifiers. Despite all that, they’ve never seen fit to update the original bladeless fan. That changes now with the Dyson Cool CF1.

That’s right, Dyson’s weird fan from over a decade and half ago is finally getting a successor and it still looks, pretty much, the same. It’s not entirely the same, of course, as it gets a bunch of modern updates, including more fan speeds, new oscillation options, and a number of more contemporary features.

The Dyson Cool CF1 has a short cylindrical body with a large round ring on top, which is very similar to the original design. For this iteration, though, it delivers impressively fast cooling, coming with a maximum airflow rate of 370 liters per second, as well as 10 fan speeds, so you get a whole load of options as to how strong you want the airflow to be. A brushless DC motor, paired with the outfit’s Air Multiplier technology, enables the powerful airflow by amplifying the air it draws in up to 13 times, while a built-in Helmholtz silencer minimizes the amount of noise it produces even at full power.

If you want to spread air around a wider area of the room, it has three oscillation options, namely 15-, 40-, and 70-degrees, as well as a manual tilt for directing the air in a specific direction. Regardless of where it’s facing, airflow is designed to be smooth and uninterrupted, since there are no blades to create the buffeting effect found in conventional fans. As with other bladeless fans, cleaning is incredibly convenient, requiring you to simply wipe down the exterior parts, since there are no blades and grille that will accumulate dirt like they do in more traditional fan designs.

The Dyson Cool CF1 has an updated LCD screen, which shows the current mode and airflow setting, so it feels like a proper modern appliance, along with buttons underneath it for quick access to power, airflow, and oscillation settings. There’s a new Sleep mode that optimizes it to run at whisper-quiet operating noise of just 29 decibels, all while automatically dimming the display, so there’s nothing to distract you from slumber. Additionally, it also offers a sleep timer that can automatically shut the fan off after the set time passes. We don’t know why you’ll want to shut the fan off when you’re sleeping, but it’s available as an option if you want it.

There’s an included remote that’s shaped to store securely on top of the fan, so you can simply reach for the remote to make adjustments, instead of trying to make out the buttons at the bottom of the fan’s body each time out. The whole thing is designed to operate in an energy efficient manner, by the way, using only 30W of power at the maximum speed setting.

The Dyson Cool CF1 is now available in the UK, priced at £249.99. No word on yet on launch date and pricing for other markets.
