Some people carry a pocket knife as their EDC blade. Others prefer the simplicity of utility knives, with their slide-up locks, disposable blades, and relatively compact profiles. Gerber has long had a very good option in the category with their Exchange-a-Blade (EAB). This time, they’re giving it a refresh in the form of the Gerber EAB Slim.
To the unfamiliar, the EAB is the outfit’s long-running utility knife, which pairs a disposable blade with a folding form factor similar to Gerber’s pocket knives. Well, they ditched the folding design in this new edition, instead going with a slide lock that’s more common in the category.
The Gerber EAB Slim is, obviously, more slender due to the new form factor, allowing it to slip very comfortably in your pocket. They don’t list the actual thickness, but it is very slim, allowing you to have a low-profile blade tool in your daily carry. It uses a simple slide lock, so you can easily take the blade out and pop it back in with one hand, all while using a standard trapezoidal disposable blade, so you can easily refill it with most any cheap blade you can get in the market.
There’s a plastic loop in the rear end, allowing you to easily integrate it with the rest of your keychain tools, as well as a pocket clip if you prefer carrying it on its own. It has a stainless steel body that should be durable enough to withstand the hazards of your everyday adventures, as well as a bottle opener for the heck of it. The whole thing measures 4.4 inches long.
The Gerber EAB Slim is available in black and silver, priced at $15.99.
