Wacom Movink 13 Brings OLED Panels to the Drawing Tablet

Drawing tablets have become indispensable for many creatives who rely on the devices to recreate the traditional pen-on-paper drawing experience while doing their work on PCs and Macs. It continues to be a growing category, so much so that there are more and more players in the space, forcing stalwarts like Wacom to regularly innovate. That’s exactly what they’re doing with the new Wacom Movink 13.

Billed as “the first professional OLED pen display,” the new drawing tablet features a vibrant OLED panel, which should offer a big step up over the LED-based offerings we currently have today. If you’ve ever used an OLED TV, then you know about the improved color reproduction and enhanced contrast you’re going to get with this thing. Additionally, it should also enable faster response times, so you can immediately see every line and every stroke registered directly under your pen.

The Wacom Movink 13 has a 13.3-inch Samsung OLED panel that completely eliminates the need for backlighting, which results in a very slim enclosure that measures just 6.6mm at the thickest point and 4mm at the thinnest. It’s also very light, tipping the scales at just 14.8 ounces, so you can comfortably hold it in hand while doing your drawings and sketches. According to the outfit, this is their thinnest and lightest pen display to date.

The screen boasts a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, which is a significant upgrade over their previous drawing tablets (the recently released Cintiq Pro 17 had a 1,000:1 ratio), along with a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 170-degree viewing angle (both vertical and horizontal), and 0.2ms response time. It also recreates 100 percent of the DCI-P3 and 95 percent of the Adobe RGB color spectrum, all while being validated for both Pantone and Pantone SkinTone color reproduction. Suffice to say, this is a nicer-looking panel than their previous pen displays. It features Corning Gorilla Glass on top for protection, an anti-glare coating, anti-smudge coating, and full touch control functions.

The Wacom Movink 13 boasts a pen latency of under one millisecond, while boasting increased pen detection height and no visible parallax. It comes with an exclusive version of the Wacom Pro Pen 3, by the way, which features a slimmer, more visible nib, all while retaining the same 8,192 pressure levels, up to 60-degree tilt angle, and three side switches for tactile controls. If you’re not quite sure about the new pen, it’s also compatible with the outfit’s other pens (e.g. Pro Pen 2), as well as third-party offerings from Dr. Grip Digital, LAMY, and Staedtler. Sadly, there’s no built-in stand, requiring you to purchase an extra accessory if you prefer working at angle.

It requires just one USB-C cable during use, so you don’t need to be bogged down by a mess of multiple wires, although it does have a second USB-C slot, in case the device you plugged it into doesn’t have enough power to supply to a secondary display (e.g. when your laptop battery is low while working on the road). According to the outfit, it supports Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Android.

The Wacom Movink 13 is available now.
