Sennheiser Profile Wireless Combines Tabletop Mic, Handheld Mic, and Clip-On Mics in One Setup

If you’re a content creator, you probably have an overabundance of gear. For instance, you have a USB mic for your desktop streams, a handheld mic that you bring out when interviewing, and clip-on mics you use for vlog-style recordings. The Sennheiser Profile Wireless looks to streamline this complex mic setup by combining all those into one device.

Billed as an “all-in-one microphone system,” the device combines dual clip-on mics, a handheld mic and even a tabletop mic in a single setup. Don’t worry, you won’t have to attach that large handheld mic to your collar for use as a clip-on. Instead, it uses separate modules that enable more conventional form factors for each microphone type.

The Sennheiser Profile Wireless consists of multiple components. There’s a charging bar that doubles as housing for the other modules, namely a two-channel wireless receiver and two clip-on wireless microphones. The receiver plugs in to the side of the charging bar, while the two clip-on mics go in at the top. In tabletop and handheld mode, you can put the included windscreen over the top, covering the plugged in clip-on mics as a single unit, making it look like a conventional microphone setup. You can then take out the receiver, then plug it into your PC, mirrorless camera, or whatever other equipment you’re using to record.

The charging bar is sized a little too wide compared to traditional handheld mics, although it’s still not too wide that most people should be able to grip it in their hand during handheld use. From what we can tell, though, there’s no included stand for tabletop mode, so you’re going to have to find potentially compatible stands to use with it, which probably won’t be easy considering how much wider its dimensions are compared to standard mics.

The Sennheiser Profile Wireless can, of course, be used like any regular 2.4GHz lapel mics. Just take out the mics and receiver out of the charging bar, then use them like your DJI Mic or Rode Wireless Pro, with each mic pre-paired to the receiver, so there’s no setup necessary. Each clip-on mic comes with 16GB of onboard storage that you can use to record up to 30 hours of audio, with a safety channel mode for recording backup audio at a lower volume and a backup recording mode to ensure you have proper sound even when the wireless connection fails.

Features include 24-bit recording capability, an OLED panel on the receiver that can automatically reorient its display based on placement, a dedicated headphone output on the receiver for audio monitoring, a lockable 3.5mm TRS connector on each mic for hooking up to smaller lavalier mics, and a rated battery life of seven hours when recording and transmitting (14 hours when recording only). It comes with a cold shoe mounting adaptor, USB-C and Lighting connectors, and threaded mounting sockets for versatile use.

The Sennheiser Profile Wireless is now available for preorder, with an expected ship date of late 2024 or early 2025. Price is $299.
