We’re big fans of using accessories to ensure a good night’s sleep, whether it be cooling pillows, electric blankets, or some fancy sleep gadgets. The Eight Sleep Pod 5 takes different sleep accessory functions and combines them into a single comprehensive system.
You know how some bedding products are designed for cooling and some are designed for heating? Well, this thing does both, so it can cool you down during sweltering nights and warm you up during chillier weather. More than that, it can also lift your head to prevent snoring, play relaxing sounds to help lull you to sleep, wake you up to different alarms, track your sleep metrics, and more, making it a more versatile accessory than your typical sleep aid.
The Eight Sleep Pod 5 consists of a mattress cover, a blanket, a base unit, and a hub. Both the cover and the blanket can deliver temperatures from 55 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing it to cool or warm your body, depending on what you need. Even better, it’s self-regulating, so it can raise and lower temperature all on its own based on the biometric readings it registers using the embedded sensors. When it detects you’re snoring, the base unit can gently elevate your head on the fly, putting you in a posture that’s more likely to leave your airways open to minimize those vibrating sounds. The base, by the way, is designed to slide under the mattress, although they also offer a way to set it up separately (if you can’t slide it in for whatever reason).
Inside the base sits a built-in speaker that plays preloaded audio tailored for relaxation and recovery. Do note, you can’t use it to play your own music on the speaker, so you’re limited to whatever sounds are available from the companion app. You can also use that speaker as an audio alarm, if you like waking up to sounds. However, it also offers vibration and thermal alarms, if you find those gentler ways of rousing you up from sleep much more pleasant.
The Eight Sleep Pod 5 has buttons on the side of the bed cover for controlling the functions manually, so you can adjust temperature, control sound playback, and elevate the head area any time you want without having to fiddle with your phone. That means, you can have the base raise your head area if you want to spend some time reading before bed, as well as preheat the cover and blanket a few minutes before you hit the hay. There are also built-in sensors for comprehensive sleep tracking, so it can compile all sorts of sleep metrics with no need to wear a sleep tracking wristband. The hub, by the way, houses many of the tech, including the wireless connectivity (for pairing with the companion) and the water-based temperature adjustment system. It’s designed to sit right next to the bed.
The full Eight Sleep Pod 5 is available now, priced at a hefty $5,899. The components also seem to be available separately, if you don’t need the whole ensemble at the moment.
