Using ice gel packs in place of actual ice for your cooler is a great way to chill food and drinks without the mess of melted ice dripping all over. Problem is, it’s only viable for use in a cooler during day trips, since it doesn’t tend to keep its low temperature for very long, especially if you’re frequently opening and closing the cooler. The Frost Titan Core offers a much longer-lasting alternative.
An ultra-slim titanium cooling plate, it can get just as cold as a traditional ice gel packs, all while retaining its temperature up to six times longer. That means, it will keep your food and drinks chilled for an extended period, making it usable for a lot more than afternoon picnics, tailgate parties, and day trips.

The Frost Titan Core is a titanium plate that measures just 6.5 x 4.1 x 0.4 inches (length x width x thickness). That makes it incredibly slim compared to ice gel packs, so you can slip several of these inside a cooler while using up very little room. Similar to gel packs, it can reach freezing temperatures of up to 14 degrees Fahrenheit, so it can get very, very cold. However, it’s able to reach those temperatures with just an hour in the freezer, which is so much shorter than how long it takes to freeze a gel pack to the same temperature. That means, even if you forgot to put it in the freezer last night, you just need an hour in the morning to get it to the desired temperatures.

Even better, it’s able to retain cold temperatures for much longer. While ice gel packs typically lose their cold temperatures within two hours when left in open air, this plate is able to stay under 32 degrees Fahrenheit for up to 12 hours in the same conditions. That means, it should last a whole lot longer inside a well-insulated cooler. Obviously, the actual length of time it will be able to chill a cooler will depend on a variety of factors (insulation quality, ambient temperature, usage, and more), but it’s probably safe to say it can keep things chilled even for several days.

The Frost Titan Core is made from solid titanium, so it’s very durable, since it won’t be susceptible to tears or punctures, ensuring it will stay with you for a long time. It doesn’t absorb odor, either, so you can throw it in the cooler with practically anything, while weighing just 270 grams, so it won’t add much heft to your ice box either. Due to its slim and light profile, you can easily put multiple cooling plates inside a large cooler, which should further extend the length of time it can keep its temperature. Because it’s just a flat metal plate, it’s incredibly easy to clean, as well, allowing you to simply wash it in the sink like a dining plate if ever it gets mucked up.
A Kickstarter campaign is currently running for the Frost Titan Core. You can reserve a unit for pledges starting at $163.
