Boker KalashniCob: Yes, This Pocket Knife Looks Like an Actual Corn on the Cob

Pocket knives see plenty of use when it comes to food. We use ours, for instance, to peel fruits, slice sandwiches, and split energy bars at various points throughout the day. So why not make a pocket knife that looks like a tasty snack? That’s exactly what they did with the Boker Kalashnikob, a pocket knife clad in the likeness of corn on the cob with the husk still attached to it.

Originally posted as an April Fool’s joke, the knife was, apparently, popular enough that they decided to actually make a commercial version of the darn thing. And it looks every bit as preposterous as the original concept, making it look like you’re bringing out a miniature corn every time you deploy your EDC blade.

The Boker KalashniCob is based on the outfit’s Kalashnikov Automatic, a folding knife designed with the iconic AK-47 in mind. According to the outfit, the knife is all about combining a no-frills aesthetic with maximum functionality and high-performance materials, much like the automatic rifle that inspired its creation. Well, that no-frills knife is now getting an all-frills corn-on-the-cob version, with a photographic image of golden yellow corn on the cob printed on both sides of the blade and a husk-colored handle with yellow hardware to really round out the theme.

The knife’s 3.25-inch long drop point blade isn’t just crazy because of the corn on the cob print. What’s actually wilder is the blade’s three-inch, flat-grind edge, which is actually serrated in the shape of individual corn kernels. We don’t know how well the edge can actually cut stuff (we’ve never seen an edge like that before), but we guess you’re not buying this for its actual utility, but the utter novelty of adding a corn-shaped knife to your collection. Seriously, that blade just looks utterly ridiculous, especially if you give it closer inspection.

The Boker KalashniCob comes with automatic blade deployment, so you simply push a single button on the side to shuck the knife open, with no need to fiddle with a tiny thumb groove like you normally would. Do note, the button is only on one side, so it’s oriented for right-handed deployment, although we’re pretty certain there are lefties out there who also like corn on the cob. It also has a tip-up pocket clip for mounting on your right side pants pocket, so you definitely won’t be doing yourself any good getting this as a left-handed individual.

When fully deployed, the knife measures 7.5 inches, with a 4.25-inch handle giving you plenty of leverage for all your cutting and slicing tasks. The blade is made from D2 steel, a tough and durable material that provides superior edge retention, but is usually more difficult to sharpen. Given that this is a novelty knife, we’re guessing you’ll never sharpen this anyway, so that’s probably not an issue. The handle, on the other hand, is cut in lightweight aluminum, so this is a pretty strong knife all throughout.

The Boker KalashniCob is slated to come out February 25th as a Blade HQ exclusive. No word on whether this is a limited edition, but it will probably have a limited run. Price is $66.95.
