Like other travel pillows, the Cabeau Evolution X is designed to provide support for your head and neck while you sleep in a seated position during your flights. Unlike them, it’s specifically designed to keep your head as upright as possible to minimize any chances of waking up with neck pain.
Billed as a neck pillow that “adjusts to you,” the travel accessory offers adjustments in height, circumference, and tightness, allowing you to customize the fit and ensure optimal support that’s tailored to your specific physical qualities. According to the outfit, the idea is to dial in the fit so that it cradles your head and prevents it from falling forward, ensuring you can spend the time snoozing on the plane without putting any undue strain on your neck.
The Cabeau Evolution X comes with stiff-looking round sections on each end, which make it look like a pair of headphones you’re wearing around your neck. They call those end sections “lobes” and they’re, basically, the part that provides much of the pillow’s supportive function due to their stiff nature. While they have stiff edges, the lobes are actually pliable around the middle, allowing you to curve them inwards, effectively adjusting their height. If you have a longer neck, you can simply curve them slightly or open them completely. Those with shorter necks, on the other hand, can go with a more pronounced curve. Either way, you’ll able to dial in the exact height to the most comfortable position.
For adjusting the circumference, you need to unzip the pillow cover to access the adjustable neck strap underneath. Again, you can dial in to find the best circumference to support your upper extremities, then zip the cover back up to finish things off. Lastly, there’s a cord and ball lock around front, which you can use to loosen and tighten how the whole thing fits around your neck. Simply put, it’s probably the most adjustable travel pillow we’ve ever seen.
The Cabeau Evolution X’s design will supposedly keep your head from tilting over 10 degrees in any directions, which limits any stress that can be put on your neck muscles, allowing you to actually get a restful nap in an erstwhile uncomfortable seated position. Cooling vents situated around the pillow ensure you have proper airflow, so it never gets too hot and sweaty underneath, while ergonomic memory foam provides the necessary cushioning to keep things comfy. The RPET cover is also easily removable for cleaning.
