Edgelet ScytheBlade Has to Be the Grim Reaper’s Favorite Keychain Knife

There’s a reason why the Grim Reaper has long been depicted carrying a scythe – the crop-cutting staple makes the creepy character look cool. Hook-shaped blades just bring a certain aesthetic that gives erstwhile humble tools a more menacing feel. Take, for instance, this tiny Edgelet ScytheBlade.

A keychain knife, it’s a miniature folder equipped with an equally tiny hawkbill blade that adopts the familiar shape of the scythe. That way, you can channel your inner Grim Reaper every time you open packages, cut rope, or slash the paint job on your ex-boyfriend’s car, all from a minuscule blade you can carry as a handy keychain tool.

The Edgelet ScytheBlade measures just 1.3 x 0.5 inches (length x width) when closed, allowing it to hang on your keychain without taking up too much room. The blade itself measures just half an inch in length, while being clad in that scythe-like hook shape that gives it such a unique aesthetic. Even the edge takes on the full hook shape, so you might have a hard time using this for cutting tasks that require a straight edge. Instead, it’s best used for doing more precise cuts that take full advantage of the large sharp tip and the curved edge body.

The blade is affixed to the frame using a gear-like section at the end, which comes with jimping that you can use to easily deploy the blade using a finger. A frame lock mechanism ensures it stays securely in position, whether open or closed, all while delivering a satisfying click every time the blade locks in place. Suffice to say, you can use this knife safely, with all the confidence in the world.

The Edgelet ScytheBlade has a frame cut in titanium, with the blade fashioned from 7Cr steel. According to the outfit, this combo gives the knife a great balance of strength, style, and sophistication, especially when combined with the dramatic shape of the hook blade. The whole thing weighs just 0.28 ounces, too, so this won’t add all that much heft to your keychain, either.

A Kickstarter campaign is currently running for the Edgelet ScytheBlade. You can reserve a unit for pledges starting at $33.
