We’re big fans of GoRuck’s tactical backpacks, whose minimalist looks, rugged build, and modern features have made them extremely popular over the last decade and a half. If you’re looking to get the same qualities in a collapsible backpack, you might be interested in the GoRuck Packable Bullet.
Designed to pack into a sandwich-sized bag that measures 8 x 7 x 3 inches (width x height x depth), the collapsed rucksack can easily squeeze into a jacket pocket, a hip pack compartment, or a backpack pouch, allowing you to bring an extra backpack, ready to pull out any time you need it. Whether you want a small pack for gallivanting during your travels, a packable bag for carrying supplies from the nearby grocery, or just an emergency backpack to pull out when you need to carry stuff, this thing should make for a handy option to keep within reach.
The GoRuck Packable Bullet is a very lightweight packable backpack, tipping the scales at just 6.5 ounces, so it won’t be weighing your pockets down while it sits inside. When deployed, it measures a respectable 10.75 x 18.5 x 5.5 inches (width x height x depth), with a main compartment that’s able to accommodate 10 liters’ worth of gear. It takes on a styling similar to the outfit’s classic GR1, complete with a diagonal panel out front and a Velcro panel on top for customizing it with your favorite patch, albeit with far less structure, allowing it to pack down into a small size.
The bag is cut in water-resistant Robic nylon, which boasts 2.5 times the tear resistance of comparable ripstop nylon 6 fabrics, ensuring it can handle your rough adventures in and around the city alike. All the seams are welded with tape to further reinforce the water resistance, with YKK AquaGuard zippers keeping moisture from coming through the main opening. That means, you can use this to keep your gear dry during downpours, giving you another good reason to keep it within easy reach. Do note, it’s not a fully waterproof backpack, so you’ll want to keep water exposure to a minimum if you can help it.
The GoRuck Packable Bullet has an internal carabiner that you can use to hold your keys, as well as the included zippered pouch, so you can easily reach for it when packing the bag down. You can also use that zippered case as an internal pocket, in case you need to square away smaller items from the rest of your gear. According to the outfit, packing the backpack down and stashing it in the pouch takes no more than 30 seconds, allowing you to collapse and deploy everything in a jiffy.
Apparently, this 10L backpack is the smallest one the outfit’s ever made, which is surprising considering how long they’ve been in the business. It doesn’t have any internal or external pockets, though, so it won’t be useful for organizing your gear, although the packable design is really the main selling point here and it seems like a really good bag for that purpose. The bag comes with the same lifetime guarantee as the rest of their offerings.
The GoRuck Packable Bullet is availablein two colors, black and ranger green. It’s priced at $65.
