LG Signature OLED T Is Finally Here and It’s Just As Expensive As It Is Stunning

TVs may be more affordable than ever, but that, of course, is not the case if you want your big screen TV with the most cutting-edge technology. Case in point: the 77-inch LG Signature OLED T, which retails for a whopping $59,999.99.

That’s right, LG’s newest TV, which we first featured in our CES 2024 TV list, is probably more expensive than your car, making for an absolutely ridiculous purchase likely to be partaken in only by the ridiculously rich among us. But why is it is so expensive? Well, LG is calling it “the world’s first transparent and true wireless 4K OLED TV,” making it a veritable showcase for the outfit’s latest and greatest TV tech.

The LG Signature OLED T is a 77-inch OLED TV that can be set to a transparent mode that allows you to fully see through the TV, with objects onscreen looking like they’re floating in the air, as you can see the backdrop of what actually sits behind the panel. It’s a pretty wild sight to see. Of course, if you’d prefer a more conventional viewing experience, there’s also an opaque mode that raises the TV’s contrast film, which adds a black layer to the background to keep light from behind the panel coming through.

The OLED TV has 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,170 pixels), 120Hz refresh rate, and all the usual TV tech you expect from a high-end panel, from dynamic tone mapping and pixel dimming to HDR and Dolby Vision to all sorts of AI picture processing. Since having wires hanging off your TV ruins any aesthetic upsides from the TV’s transparent design, it connects wirelessly through the separate LG’s Zero Connect Box, which is where you plug in all the video and audio equipment you want to hook up to your TV. According to the outfit, the box can sit a maximum distance of 30 feet away from the TV, so you can set it up a fair distance away.

The LG Signature OLED T has a slim horizontal panel at the bottom edge of the TV called the T-Bar, which can serve as an information ticker. Do note, the rest of the TV remains unused when the T-Bar is running, which, the outfit claims, helps the whole thing achieve a clean, uncluttered look. The TV, by the way, runs the outfit’s webOS platform, which gives you access to all the popular streaming apps and over 300 free LG channels, while a custom screensaver called T Object showcases the panel’s transparent design, allowing it to serve as a dynamic display piece when you’re not watching anything on the TV.

It has an integrated 4.2-channel sound system, with downfiring speakers and Dolby Atmos 4 to ensure immersive surround sound for compatible content. As with many modern TVs, it has a gaming mode that takes full advantage of that 120Hz refresh rate, along with support for VRR, AMD FreeSync, and Nvidia G-Sync. Other features include multi-view support (up to four screens), built-in Alexa, Matter compatibility, and a freestanding frame that makes it easy to place anywhere in the room.

The LG Signature OLED T is available now. Do note, you can’t just drive off the store lot with this thing in the back, as it requires you to place a preorder and wait for your TV to come a little later.
