There’s a ton of choices out there for cheap handheld screwdrivers. However, we’re never quite seen a handheld screwdriver designed specifically for removing and installing door knobs. That’s what makes the Ryobi Door Knob Installation Driver quite the unique problem-specific hand tool.
That’s right, they made a manual screwdriver that specializes in door knob installation, ensuring you know exactly which hand tool to reach for whenever you need to take on that specific task. Granted, you can remove and install door knobs using any regular screwdriver (or novelty screwdriver, for that matter), albeit with some awkward twisting, which this thing completely eliminates.
The Ryobi Door Knob Installation Driver looks like any standard Phillips screwdriver at first glance. You know… the kind you can pick up in a pile at just about any hardware or household store in your neighborhood. However, there are a couple of novel elements here. First, there’s a bit holder near the end of the grip, which is designed to take an included Phillips bit to turn the whole thing into a right angle driver for working on screws in tight spaces. Specifically, they designed it to come in handy when fiddling with the screws on residential door knobs, which are often situated beneath the actual knob, making them difficult to reach using a conventional driver design.
Aside from that, the entire shaft of the main screwdriver is actually removable, which allows you to break the whole thing apart for more optimized storage. Even better, the 3.5-inch shaft is actually designed to serve as a bit that you can attach to cordless drills for those times you need a long bit to reach deep into tighter spaces. It has a non-marring sleeve, too, ensuring it doesn’t nick or scratch your door knob while you go about the installation.
The Ryobi Door Knob Installation Driver is slated to debut this month, priced at $6.97.
