Camping with the family is fun. Crawling inside a cramped tent that barely accommodates two adults and two kids? Not so much. If you want to make camp life comfortable for the family, you need a bigger tent with better appointments. That’s exactly what the Snow Peak Land Nest Shelter aims to deliver.
Unlike most tents, this one separates living and sleeping spaces, giving you a separate sheltered area to lounge and hang out during the day. That means, you can prepare breakfast on your camping table inside the shelter early in the morning while the kids sleep in undisturbed, making for an overall better way of enjoying the outdoors.
The Snow Peak Land Nest Shelter isn’t the first time the outfit is releasing a multi-room tent. This one, however, is a lot more reasonably priced than their previous releases, making it a good option for folks looking to take the plunge into a bigger multi-room shelter. When pitched, the tent measures 6.9 x 11.8 x 20.3 feet (height x width x depth), so this thing gives you quite the large shelter. Do note, the sleeping area is only large enough for either three adults or two adults plus two kids, so you might have to squeeze in a bit when bringing your older kids along.
The living space, though, is much bigger, with enough lounging room for up to six people, while offering nearly six feet of headroom, so most folks should be able to walk around upright without having to duck their heads at any point. Suffice to say, you can invite friends over and enjoy a proper gathering in the space. The living area, by the way, can be set up as part of the enclosed tent, although you also get the option to raise up the end like an awning to let more air through. Simply put, you can set this up in a variety of ways, depending on what the weather permits.
The Snow Peak Land Nest Shelter also offers the option to remove the sleeping area, essentially turning the whole thing into a single space if you need room to sleep more people. This makes it ideal for use as a shared group tent for those times you need it. Do note, you’ll need to purchase an extra mat sheet, since the living area has no flooring, but you should be able to add whatever appointments are necessary to turn into a single large shelter.
It’s rated for three-season use, so you should be able to take it camping for most of the year, while getting both a water-repellent finish and a UV coating to shield it from the elements. The ceiling panel, by the way, uses a darker pigment to further block strong sunlight, while mesh wall panels keep things breathable. On chillier nights, you can deploy the skirts to keep the cold drafts at bay. When packed, the whole thing measures 2.5 x 1 x 1.1 feet and weighs 36.4 pounds, so it’s definitely not the kind of tent you’re going to take when backpacking.
The Snow Peak Land Nest Shelter is available now, priced at $749.95.
