Hohem Eyepic Has a Camera That Detaches from the Gimbal for Action Cam Use

We’re familiar with Hohem’s handheld gimbals for both cameras and smartphones, which add its own stabilization, object tracking, and various cinematic shooting modes to your video recording device. With the Hohem Eyepic, the outfit is adding a camera to that handheld gimbal.

Just like other gimbal cameras, it gives you a handheld device with a handy grip, a screen on the body, and a gimbal-mounted camera on top, allowing you to shoot jitter-free videos even on the go. Unlike them, this one has a removable sensor module that can be used as a thumb camera that you can attach to clothing, hang around your neck, or attach to various accessories.

The Hohem Eyepic is a gimbal camera with three-axis stabilization, ensuring it can capture stable footage, no matter how much you move around during recording. It can capture 4K footage (2160 x 3840) at up to 60 fps, which it can do natively in both landscape and portrait orientation. That’s right, it lets you get the full 4K capture capability of the image sensor whether shooting vertically or horizontally, making it useful for content creators, regardless of what platform you’re planning to upload your videos on. The way you trigger vertical shooting is by rotating the 2.5-inch touchscreen display on the grip’s body, with the camera automatically reorienting itself to match it.

The grip gets a joystick control to manually adjust the framing, as well as a lever for cycling through the different zoom levels. Sadly, the complete details aren’t out yet, so there’s no information on storage capacity or battery life. We’re hoping it’s, at least, somewhat competitive with the gimbal camera offerings from DJI and Insta360 on that end. There’s also no word on the autonomous tracking algorithms it comes with, although we’re guessing they threw in their full tracking set here similar to what they offer in their more expensive handheld gimbals, since they’re trying to compete with products that have them in full force.

The Hohem Eyepic’s biggest selling point here, of course, is the fact that the camera can be detached from the gimbal, allowing you to use it as a standalone thumb camera. It comes with a clip and a lanyard, too, allowing you to easily attach it to clothing, clip it to hats, or hang it around your neck for hand-free video recordings, much like an action cam. It’s magnetic, as well, so you can snap it onto ferromagnetic surfaces to keep it in a single fixed location. Sadly, there’s no onboard screen on the standalone camera, although it streams footage to the screen on the gimbal for those times you want to check whether you’re framing scenes the way you’ actually like. When used on its own without the gimbal, the camera is waterproof up to 33 feet.

Aside from the camera gimbal, the outfit has also announced two new smartphone gimbals with Apple DockKit support and a new wireless mic system, All the new products are currently being shown off at IFA 2026 in Germany.

No word on release date or pricing for Hohem Eyepic. Hopefully, it comes out later in the year as a more affordable alternative in the camera gimbal category.
