Insta360 Mic Pro Adds an E-Ink Screen to a Wireless Lapel Mic for Showing Logos and Images

Wireless lapel mics have become the standard for many content creators, since it ensures quality audio capture even when moving around. It’s so common now, in fact, people don’t even try to wear it discreetly like they used to. That’s why the Insta360 Mic Pro lets you customize your wireless mic’s appearance whether for aesthetics, branding, or any other purpose.

Instead of having a plastic housing like most wearable wireless mics, this one has a round E-Ink screen that you can use to display logos, names, or any random graphic. Want your mic to bear your YouTube channel’s logo? This lets you do just that. How about a custom image your audience might find pleasing? Yep, you can do that on this thing, too.

The Insta360 Mic Pro works much like any of the wireless lapel mics in the market today. That means, you can use it as a transmitter and receiver combo, with the latter plugging into whatever camera you’re using either via USB-C or audio cables. However, a receiver isn’t necessary if you use it with any of the compatible cameras from the outfit’s lineup, making it extremely convenient to use for existing Insta360 users. According to the outfit, it should pair seamlessly with the X5, the X4 Air, the Ace Pro 2, and the Go Ultra, making it the perfect audio recording accessory for those devices.

As we said, each transmitter now comes with a 1.22-inch round E-Ink screen that can display any text or image you want onscreen. You can update what is displayed using the companion app, where you can upload whatever image you want to show on there. The panel, by the way, supports six colors, so you can get a little color on there to make things easier on the eyes. Since it’s E-Ink, the display should use up very little power, while staying onscreen full-time even after you turn the transmitter off.

The Insta360 Mic Pro also gets a three-microphone array: one on top and one on each side. This design, along with some audio processing software, allows it to switch the transmitter’s polar patterns, so you can go omnidirectional, cardioid, or figure-8, depending on what’s best suited for each situation. The mic, by the way, supports 32-bit float internal recording directly into its 32GB of onboard storage, which can fit around 22.2 hours of 32-bit stereo audio. Other transmitter features include AI noise cancellation, three voice tone presets (standard, rich, bright), automatic gain control, and even a USB-C port. Do note, this transmitter seems to be bigger than most, which isn’t surprising since it has an E-Ink display and a three-mic setup.

According to the outfit, the transmitter gets around 10 hours of audio recording between charges, so it will take a while before it requires a recharge. If you get the full set with the charging case, the case can extend battery life by another 20 hours (30 hours total). One transmitter, by the way, can pair with up to four receivers at a time, making it a viable tool even for larger multi-cam productions.

The Insta360 Mic Pro is available now.
