It’s far from the perfect, especially with that unruly zipper keeping whole thing in place, but it works. The Marmot Wraptor wants to make it work better by eliminating that zipper entirely.
If you’ve ever used a sleeping bag, then you know the potential struggle zippers can become. When it gets too hot, for instance, you want to just partially open the zipper to let some heat out, only for the darn thing to keep unzipping completely. This is not to mention all the snags that are actually not that uncommon while you’re zipping it up as you try to stay comfortable inside the rooftop tent. Well, that will no longer be an issue here.
The Marmot Wraptor achieves this by replacing the zipper with a system of overlapping flaps that’s secured using low-profile magnetic closures and snaps. Sure, it will take a teensy bit more time closing the whole thing up instead of just one sweeping motion like you do with a zipper, but it eliminates all the usual zipper issues completely. For instance, there’s no more fabric snagging onto the zipper, which isn’t just annoying, it can end up ruining the zipper entirely. More importantly, it lets you wrap up certain sections of the sleeping bag while keeping other parts open, making it far easier to loosen the closure when you need to cool down a bit without affecting the entire thing. Simply put, you can wrap yourself up mummy-style, open everything to let air through freely, and everything in between, with nothing getting in your way.
According to the outfit, this flap-based design makes it possible to sleep not just on your back, but also on your stomach and your sides, since the flaps will allow for generous leeway to let you move around in any position. In case you don’t want to mess with the magnets or snaps but want to let a little hot air out, there’s also an envelope-style vent at the foot precisely for that purpose.
The Marmot Wraptor’s magnets and snaps are designed to be completely quiet, so you can easily make adjustments in the middle of the night without waking up the person next to you in the tent. It’s made from 100 percent recycled fabrics for both the shell and lining, giving folks who like sustainable products one more thing to like, while coming in a gender-free design that’s available in three sizes (short, standard, and long). The sleeping bag comes with a compression stuff sack and a storage bag.
The bag is available in both synthetic and down variants, in 15-, 20-, and 30-degree temperature ratings. The synthetic version uses HL-ElixR Eco insulation, which provides a soft and lofty warmth, while the down version warms things up with a 650-fill powder down with Down Defender water-resistant treatment, so it can still stay useful during wet and damp conditions.
