Is darts really, really popular right now? We don’t actually know. However, when a company is a releasing a product like the Rimowa Dartboard Case, we have to imagine there’s some kind of darts revolution happening in some corner of the world.
That’s right, Rimowa is taking their iconic grooved aluminum suitcase design and using it to make a dartboard case. And yes, it’s every bit as luxurious as their premium luggage products, all while coming with a full premium dartboard set, making this a dartboard fit for the well-heeled darts enthusiasts among us.
The Rimowa Dartboard Case is a carrying case clad in the same durable housing as the outfit’s aluminum suitcases, so it’s decked in that iconic grooved hardcase shell that became the symbol of international travel for many years. Since it’s meant to serve as a protective dartboard case rather than hardside luggage, the design is very different. For instance, it has near-even width and height proportions, since it’s accommodate a round board, all while being much slimmer than your typical luggage. Instead of opening like a clamshell, it uses dual French doors out front, with the both the left and right sides offering storage for your darts, along with a leather pouch for storing any small spare parts you might need when setting up games. The interior of the case is filled with a premium black microfiber lining, so it won’t nick or scratch your expensive dartboard during transport.
Outside, it looks and feels as premium as any of Rimowa’s aluminum suitcases. The latch locks it uses for the French doors are all custom and polished to a shine, while the rivets even come with plane engravings to remind you of Rimowa’s travel heritage. It also gets a classic black leather handle to round out the premium build.
From what we can tell, the Rimowa Dartboard Case should work with most standard-sized dartboards, so you can use it to bring your favorite sets to someone else’s house for a round of games. Hopefully, you’ll have an equally premium dartboard to carry in this luxury case. However, it also includes its own dartboard set. Specifically, it comes with the Winmau Blade X, a tournament-grade bristle board that’s renowned for heavily minimizing bounce outs by angling the internal wires to direct dart tips into the segments, rather than deflecting them away. Winmau claims this particular board offers a much more consistent playing surface, while the sisal fiber construction means it’s self-healing, with the fibers closing back around a hole immediately after removing the dart.
Instead of simply being a way to carry your dartboard set, though, Rimowa actually wants you to keep the board inside at all times. That’s because the case is designed to attach to a wall mount, so you can open the doors while it hangs in place and play a round without having to take the dartboard off. We do wish they added a scoring system on there to really make it an all-in-one solution.
The Rimowa Dartboard Case comes out on July 30, with pricing expected to be around $6,300.
