Dyson Find+Follow Purifier Cool Uses AI Vision to Detect People in the Room and Sends Fresh Air Their Way

Find and follow has been a standard feature on many cameras, drones, and all sorts of other tech. So why not use it for your household cooling fan? That’s exactly what they’re doing with the new Dyson Find+Follow Purifier Cool.

Traditionally, fans either blow cool air in one direction or oscillate to spread the air across a wider area, with users choosing which of the two settings they wanted. Dyson’s fans functioned the same way. This new tech allows the fan to detect where people actually are in the room, then automatically directs air towards that direction That means, if you’re sitting on the couch, then it will send air towards the couch. Once you get up to grab the remote on the shelf, it will redirect airflow to move along with you, ensuring it fulfills its purpose of cooling you down the whole time.

The Dyson Find+Follow Purifier Cool is a combined fan and air purifier, so it won’t just circulate air, it will clean it up and remove impurities before sending it back out. The all-new Find+Follow feature uses a 17-point vision-based detection system that effectively recognizes your precise location at all times, then sends the air that way. In case there’s more than one person in the room, it will automatically oscillate the fan, making sure everyone gets their chance for a little cooling. According to the outfit, it can oscillate up to 350-degrees, so it can keep redirecting air even when you walk behind it, which is very convenient. Since it has that AI vision on board, it also uses it to detect when there’s no one in the room, at which point it can automatically turn off.

According to Dyson, all the data it collects is only processed locally and promptly deleted, so nothing gets out, ensuring your privacy stays intact. It also doesn’t identify people, instead only detecting presence so it can adjust its airflow. Does it seem overkill for a fan? Sure, but you’re already paying premium for a Dyson, so might as well get extra features along with it.

The Dyson Find+Follow Purifier Cool’s air purifier function can process over 76 gallons of air per second, ensuring it can deliver whole-room air purification for most homes. Its filtration system incorporates an HEPA H13-grade filter, a K Carbon filter, and an SCO filter, ensuring it takes out everything from microparticles and bacteria to nitrous oxide and formaldehyde. According to the outfit, it’s designed for rooms up to 290- square feet in size.

It has all the other usual features you get from one of the outfit’s purifier fans. For instance, it’s just as easy to clean, requiring just a wipe down with no blades or grills to accumulate dust. It also has the Sleep Mode that optimizes to produce as little noise as possible while continuing to run. You can adjust settings, by the way, using the companion app, so you can turn off any feature you don’t want to use. The whole thing, by the way, stands at 41.3 inches tall.

The Dyson Find+Follow Purifier Cool is available now, priced at $849.99.
