There was a time when people walked around with a thumb drive (or two or three) in their pockets. It was convenient. Later on, many people switched to larger external 2.5-inch hard drives, which was worth the extra size for its bigger capacity and faster overall speeds. With portable SSDs, we’re back to smaller pocket-friendly sizes for our on-the-go storage and the Satechi Mini NVMe SSD Enclosure offers an excellent way to carry a high-capacity storage everywhere you go.
Designed to work with 2230mm NVMe solid state drives, the enclosure gives you a secure and portable way to carry an SSD on the go, allowing you to access games, movies, and other large media files locally. Even better, this thing is fast, boasting data transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps, ensuring you can load large files without the long waits that you’d otherwise experience when accessing those same files from cloud storage.
The Satechi Mini NVMe SSD Enclosure is a compact enclosure measuring a matchbox-sized 1.8 x 1.2 x 0.5 inches (width x height x thickness), allowing you to slip it in the tiniest pockets without any trouble. There’s no integrated storage, so you’ll have to supply your own 2230mm NVMe SSD, which you can install by simply sliding off the magnetic glass cover, plugging in the SSD to the connector at a 45 degree angle, and securing the SSD in place using the silicone pin. That’s right, no tools necessary, so you simply slide the cover back on and your SSD is ready to use.
A USB-C connector allows you to simply plug in to any device with a compatible connector, so you can use it with laptops, tablets, phones, gaming handhelds, and any other device you want to hook up to the external storage. And since it supports 10Gbps data transfer speeds, it enables Apple ProRes Log recording on compatible iPhones.
How fast is the Satechi Mini NVMe SSD Enclosure? Well, the actual speeds will depend on the SSD you actually decide to use with the enclosure. At most, though, you should be able to transfer a 10GB movie file in around 10 seconds and move 3,000 24MP JPEG images in around 56 seconds. Yeah, it’s fast. It has a miniature fan inside (yes, it has to be really, really miniature), along with built-in air vents, to ensure continuous cooling to maintain efficient operation, while the integrated USB-C connector allows you to simply plug it into any device for instant use. They also included a cable if you need it, with an included carrying case that you can attach to the enclosure using a lanyard.
Construction is aluminum with chamfered edges for the housing and a tempered glass cover, with the included cable coming in a braided exterior for durability. Since the SSD can be easily installed and removed, you should be able to use it with multiple SSDs on the go, since you can simply swap out a new one in case you run out of space.
The Satechi Mini NVMe SSD Enclosure is available now.
